the route

KIWI PARK is proud to introduce the Twin Rivers Ride, perfect for those not committed to the full grind of 160km, but still want a solid and rewarding day out.

This route takes you out of Glenorchy straight into the Paradise road, one of the most scenic gravel roads in the country (Isengard, for those Lord of The Rings fans), following the stunning Dart River up the valley through beautiful beech forest and farmland.

Turn around at Chinamans bluff, ride all the way back and up the Rees Valley road, following the Rees River for some spectacular views – and climbs, before turning around and back to Glenorchy. Heard of the Rees-Dart hiking circuit? This is the biking version of it! Get amongst it!

Rider Readiness & Conditions – Kiwi Park Twin Rivers 86km

Don’t let the middle-distance fool you — the Kiwi Park Twin Rivers is no casual cruise. This is a real adventure ride through spectacular backcountry, following two mighty rivers - The Dart and Rees. You will cross several creeks(yes, you’ll get wet feet), with punchy climbs, remote terrain, and a decent helping of grit between the start and finish lines.

It’s made for riders who love a challenge but don’t necessarily want to go full sufferfest — think Type 1.5 fun.

What to Expect:
This route follows the braided flats of the Dart and Rees Rivers, with wide open exposure to wind (tailwinds = magic, headwinds = character-building). You’ll be crossing fords, getting your feet wet, and climbing into the Rees Valley before turning around for a fast, flowy descent.

There are no road closures in place for this event, so you must follow all standard road rules at all times. Always ride on the left-hand side and stay alert to traffic. We’ve chosen October for this race to avoid peak traffic season — but vehicles are still likely. Stay sharp on blind corners and fast descents, and ride with caution throughout.

You should be comfortable riding 80km+ on gravel, confident crossing water, and able to fix your own bike if needed. It’s a great ride for gravel and mountain bikes alike — just come prepared and self-sufficient.

Bring With You:
Good layers (the weather can turn), snacks, tools, and a bike that’s ready to go the distance. The course is remote — once you’re out there, you’re committed.

Support on Course:
We’ll have aid stations, basic mechanical support, and a tail-end Charlie to keep track of riders. But don’t count on quick pick-ups — if something goes wrong, you may need to hang tight by the road for awhile or strike luck with a passing farmer.

Know What You’re Signing Up For:
This is a wild ride through wild places — and that’s exactly why we love it. If you’re into river crossings, big valley views, and a proper challenge, we’ll see you at the line.
